Twinkl phonics

Twinkl Phonics is a DfE validated full systematic, synthetic phonics programme that contains everything you need to deliver phonics teaching to children. We have a phonics lesson everyday. We learn about new digraphs (two letters that make one sound), trigraphs (3 letters that make a sound) and split digraphs (a sound that is split by a letter). We identify words that have particular sounds in and practise reading and writing them. Once we have learned the words, we practise using them in sentences. If you would like to help your child at home with their phonics, you can follow the links below:

Reading

Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. Even after children learn to read by themselves, it's still important for parents and children to read aloud together.

The Top Ten Benefits of Reading for Children.

  1. Their vocabulary is larger and more extensive.
  2. They perform better academically.
  3. Their imagination can run wild.
  4. Their creativity skills develop.
  5. They develop empathy.
  6. They gain a deeper understanding of their world.
  7. Their concentration levels improve.
  8. The parent and child bond improves.
  9. Their cognitive development is supported.
  10. Their social skills and interaction improve.
